Pés no Chão 2026 brought contemporary dance back to Campo Maior
Campo Maior once again became an international meeting point for contemporary dance with another edition of the Pés no Chão International Dance Festival. From 1 to 3 May 2026, it welcomed dozens of artists and companies from across the world. Over three days, the festival presented 14 performances by creators from Spain, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Austria and the United States of America, alongside collective projects featuring performers of various nationalities.
Presented by Município de Campo Maior in partnership with cultural association Axpress-Arte, Pés no Chão once again stood out for its international character and its commitment to diverse contemporary dance languages, turning Campo Maior into an open stage for artistic creation.
Bringing dance closer to audiences remained a defining feature of this edition. Several performances took place outside conventional venues, bringing art to emblematic locations such as Jardim Municipal and espaço.arte, through cultural use of public space and direct contact between artists and the community.
Throughout the festival, Campo Maior hosted solos, duets and collective works crossing different aesthetic and cultural perspectives. This reinforced Pés no Chão’s identity as an event for artistic exchange and for enriching the local setting through culture. The 2026 edition continued the festival’s growth within Iberian cultural life, increasingly establishing it as a reference for contemporary dance in inland Portugal.
