About the work
QueOscurezca (“Hasta que oscurezca” spoken with an Extremaduran pronunciation and accent) is a call in support of dance and the performing arts.
QueOscurezca is an explosion of emotions and a surprise for the senses. Jesús Ortega, María Lama, Juan Carlo Guajardo and Cristina Rosa blend their styles to express their experiences. Accompanied by musicians Juan Manuel Moreno, José Gómez “Fefo”, Iván Sanjuán and Sylla Aboubacar, #QueOscurezca leaves no one indifferent. Drawing on extensive musical research, the work journeys from flamenco’s deepest roots towards the ancestral rhythms of Guinea-Conakry, highlighting the bonds that unite us.
Four dancers, four perspectives, four languages, united by a powerful desire to understand one another. Four dancers from different styles merge their languages to speak of dance as one universal language.
Each experienced the pandemic differently, through different stages. In the thread that weaves the work together and connects the solos, we can read their individual experiences and the collective experience of creating #QueOscurezca: liberation, transformation, longing, the search for identity and fear of uncertainty.
