About the work

An unauthorised version of Vicente Escudero’s Decalogue.

The only certainty is movement. Through it, a space for exploration and creativity emerges, examining the Flamenco Decalogue proposed by one of flamenco dance’s most innovative figures: Vicente Escudero. Dance in a masculine manner. Sobriety. Rotate the wrist from the inside out, keeping the fingers together. Keep the hips still. Dance grounded and unhurried, like a charging bull. Harmony of feet, arms and head. Aesthetics and form, without mystification. Style and accent. Dance in traditional dress. Achieve a diversity of sounds with the heart, without metal plates on the shoes or other accessories. The Decalogue was explained and illustrated by Vicente Escudero at El Trascacho, an artistic meeting place in Barcelona, on the night of 9 December 1951. FLAMENCO Futuro [código abierto] connects this first written codification of flamenco dance with the expressive possibilities of movement today. All of this is told through a hybrid body moving along the boundaries between early flamenco and contemporary dance.
