16 September 2022 - 21:30H
An approach to the history of the body through the journey of one of Portugal’s greatest twentieth-century dance companies. Marco Martins’s documentary follows the development of dance in Portugal alongside the country’s political, economic and sociocultural history. UM CORPO QUE DANÇA tells of a new body in transformation, freeing itself from fascism, and of a changing society opening to the outside world. Previously unseen archive footage and interviews with creators and dancers trace this extraordinary company through its protagonists’ movements and words, from its beginnings in the early 1960s to its closure in 2005.

A Menina Dança
Vítor Hugo Costa (Portugal)
Centro Cultural

The world is all around us, not only in front of us. A group of women with no previous professional experience in the performing arts takes part in Bossa Nova, a contemporary dance project for older people. The film follows the project over approximately eight months in 2013, through weekly classes culminating in an artistic residency and public performance at Palácio Pancas Palha/Companhia Olga Roriz. A Menina Dança is a film about artistic creation: by observing gestures, we discover each person’s particular characteristics and how they relate to one another and to the surrounding space.
